I enjoyed this very cute book。 Margaret is on a journey of self and her discoveries are ongoing。

Slay。 This book was very good。 I wish I had read it when I was a pre teen。 It talks about things that I think every girl at that age pretty much thinks about。 I have struggled with some religious beliefs too and this book was a book written from my soul。 But I found my way just as she did。 Can't wait for the movie。 Slay。 This book was very good。 I wish I had read it when I was a pre teen。 It talks about things that I think every girl at that age pretty much thinks about。 I have struggled with some religious beliefs too and this book was a book written from my soul。 But I found my way just as she did。 Can't wait for the movie。 。。。more

Can’t believe I turned my nose at this when my mom recommended it 15 years ago。 It’s a treasure and I’m sorry I didn’t have a friend in Margaret when I needed her most! At least now I’ll be able to pass her on to the next generation, in book AND movie form!

A “must read” for every pre-adolescent girl and her mother, grandmother, favorite aunt, caretaker or anyone other adult to discuss。

What a wonderful book。 While it’s a generational coming of age book, I somehow missed it even though I have always been an avid reader。 Because I’m completing the 2023 PopSugar Reading Challenge, I chose this book because it is coming to the big screen this spring with one of my favorite actresses (Kathy bates) so I decided now would be a great time to read it。 Filled with preteen girl worries of the day, it reminded me of my younger self and I caught myself smiling throughout。 While I have no i What a wonderful book。 While it’s a generational coming of age book, I somehow missed it even though I have always been an avid reader。 Because I’m completing the 2023 PopSugar Reading Challenge, I chose this book because it is coming to the big screen this spring with one of my favorite actresses (Kathy bates) so I decided now would be a great time to read it。 Filled with preteen girl worries of the day, it reminded me of my younger self and I caught myself smiling throughout。 While I have no idea how the preteen me would have rated it, this is an enjoyable book。 I loved all the characters but Margaret and her paternal grandma were the best! Now I can’t wait to see the movie! 🍿 🎥 。。。more

Read this a couple of times when I was a kid。 Loved the story so much and it's what got me to sit in front of a mirror and learn how to raise one eyebrow。 😆 Read this a couple of times when I was a kid。 Loved the story so much and it's what got me to sit in front of a mirror and learn how to raise one eyebrow。 😆 。。。more

I first read this book at the age of 12, which would have been around 1980。 It was a good coming of age book。 I just re-read it to full fill one of my book challenge prompts requiring you to re-read a book from your childhood and this is the first one I thought of。 It's crazy how different things were back then。 A young man cutting grass for $5 a week。 Crazy! Girl's creating secret clubs and only having a landline to call each other on。 We may not have had all the electronics' of today, but life I first read this book at the age of 12, which would have been around 1980。 It was a good coming of age book。 I just re-read it to full fill one of my book challenge prompts requiring you to re-read a book from your childhood and this is the first one I thought of。 It's crazy how different things were back then。 A young man cutting grass for $5 a week。 Crazy! Didn’t realize how quick and easy of a read this was until so many people kept saying “it’s a classic” and I had no idea ! Besides realizing I picked a children’s book LMAO, it was funny and interesting putting yourself in a 12 year old mindset where she struggles to understand her growth and life identity through religion and puberty, a good read but not keeping this book LOL。

I felt like I should read this because I never did as a child but I didn't miss much。 The portrayal of an 11 to 12 year old girl's maturity is pretty accurate but Margaret isn't particularly likable。 I don't think I will encourage my daughter to read this when she gets older。 I felt like I should read this because I never did as a child but I didn't miss much。 The portrayal of an 11 to 12 year old girl's maturity is pretty accurate but Margaret isn't particularly likable。 I don't think I will encourage my daughter to read this when she gets older。 。。。more

Everyone knows I've always been a HUGE bookworm。 This book is one of my most memorable for sooooo many reasons! First because her name is Margaret, duh! 😄 Second because I found it right about the the sixth grade, just like Margaret。 Third because it sounded like it would answer all the questions I had, but was afraid to ask! My Mom had THE talk with me, but remember, it was the 70's and all of the sex talk was either uncomfortable or swept under the rug until absolutely necessary。 This was a hu Everyone knows I've always been a HUGE bookworm。 This book is one of my most memorable for sooooo many reasons! Ya know, im going to chalk this one up as something I should have read as a teenage boy。 I was probably too busy worrying about my own awkward problems like braces and acne to notice what the girls were going through。 I had no clue about menstruation or why it happened。 I even had an older sister - I feel like I should have known! Maybe I didn’t want to know。 Anyway, this book has a sweet voice and you can’t help but love Margaret Simon。 It was a throwback to middle school angst playing spin the Ya know, im going to chalk this one up as something I should have read as a teenage boy。 I was probably too busy worrying about my own awkward problems like braces and acne to notice what the girls were going through。 I had no clue about menstruation or why it happened。 I even had an older sister - I feel like I should have known! I initially gave this book three stars, because, well, I’m all grown-up and everything。 But after living with the story for a day after I completed the read, I find that my mind keeps going back to this little book。 It really sticks to one’s ribs, so to speak。 The tone was just right for a pre-teen female negotiating the big issues of pre-teen life compounded with a move to a new area。 I just read this because it’s such a classic of the YA genre and I’d never read it, but now I’m so glad I did! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Maybe this book isn't aimed at a bloke in his late 40s but I picked it up second hand a couple of years ago and have just read it a second time。 Everyone thinks this book is about a girl getting her period, but it really isn't。 It's about so much more - the conflict Margaret feels about religion, her move to a new town, new friends at school and her close relationship with her grandma。 It reminded me of the special bond I had with my dads mum。 I really enjoyed this book and really recommend it。 Maybe this book isn't aimed at a bloke in his late 40s but I picked it up second hand a couple of years ago and have just read it a second time。 Everyone thinks this book is about a girl getting her period, but it really isn't。 It's about so much more - the conflict Margaret feels about religion, her move to a new town, new friends at school and her close relationship with her grandma。 It reminded me of the special bond I had with my dads mum。 I really enjoyed this book and really recommend it。 。。。more

This was a very sweet book。 It brought me back to the days of being a young girl just starting puberty。 It was interesting to see Margaret navigate that with her friends and not want to be the last one to experience certain things。 I also thought her conversations with God were really sweet。 It was interesting how the book explored her strong relationship with God in contrast with her non-existent relationship with religion。 Reading books through a younger person’s eye is always a fun experience This was a very sweet book。 It brought me back to the days of being a young girl just starting puberty。 It was interesting to see Margaret navigate that with her friends and not want to be the last one to experience certain things。 I also thought her conversations with God were really sweet。 It was interesting how the book explored her strong relationship with God in contrast with her non-existent relationship with religion。 Reading books through a younger person’s eye is always a fun experience, and I’m glad I read this pre-teen classic。 4 stars。 。。。more

This is a coming of age story as a young (almost) 12 year old girl navigates her parents’ relationship with their parents, her religious backgrounds (Jewish and Christian), puberty, peer groups, “best” friends, and crushes。Blume navigates these topics in a matter-of-fact, straightforward 12 year-old-voice, giving voice to many of the internal thoughts a young girl might have。 Touches on topics like her father’s playboy magazine, kissing boys for the first time, and peer pressure from friends to This is a coming of age story as a young (almost) 12 year old girl navigates her parents’ relationship with their parents, her religious backgrounds (Jewish and Christian), puberty, peer groups, “best” friends, and crushes。Blume navigates these topics in a matter-of-fact, straightforward 12 year-old-voice, giving voice to many of the internal thoughts a young girl might have。 Touches on topics like her father’s playboy magazine, kissing boys for the first time, and peer pressure from friends to “grow up faster。” 。。。more

I have mixed feelings about this book: confusion, agreement, annoyance, and unsettledness (I don't think this is a word but whatever, I just made it up)。 Confusion- how does saying "we must we must increase our bust" 35 times while doing a weird exercise help your *ahem* breasts grow? and why is she so excited to get her period? it hurts SO bad Agreement- okay yeah I kinda do want to get my period because I know I will regret it but still I want it even though I don't know why。 Also, even though I have mixed feelings about this book: confusion, agreement, annoyance, and unsettledness (I don't think this is a word but whatever, I just made it up)。 Confusion- how does saying "we must we must increase our bust" 35 times while doing a weird exercise help your *ahem* breasts grow? and why is she so excited to get her period? it hurts SO bad Agreement- okay yeah I kinda do want to get my period because I know I will regret it but still I want it even though I don't know why。 Also, even though I am Christian, a lot of it can be confusing sometimes Annoyance- Her grandparents ( the christian ones) are so annoying and nosy。 And her teacher。。。 "Do you like male teachers?" I don't care whether gender a teacher is, but I do care if they ask weird questions like that。。。 or look at a girl in an unsettling way。Unsettledness- Her teacher, a male one, stares at the girl who's body has grown the most (talk about a pervert) I would recommend this for ages 10-13 or whenever you think your child can handle this book 。。。more
